Rightful Recognition for Students at RIS Suria Awards

27 July 2012

It was a morning of awards and recognition as R.E.A.L International School (RIS), Suria Campus, Cheras held its annual ‘RISS Awards’ on 21 July 2012 at the school’s Hall of Character. The event kicked off with a couple of performances by Year 8 and 10 students – “Beauty & the Beast” and “Le Festin” (a French song from ‘Ratatouille’).

Following a Welcome Speech by RIS Principal, Ms. Leonora Peers, the award presentation ceremony then got underway – with the first awards given out to the Key Stage 1 & 2 (Years 1 & 2) pupils. Among the main categories were the Primary Top Subject Awards, Most Improved Awards, Character First Recognition Awards, and the Perfect Attendance Awards. This was then followed by similar categories for the Key Stage 3 & 4 pupils.

The presentation ceremony was punctuated by three more performances by a mixed group of students – a Diablo duet performance, a group of juniors dancing to “I Got a Feeling” (from Alvin & the Chipmunks), and the “Bop to the Top” group dance (from High School Musical). The final two awards of the day were the coveted ‘RIS Suria Outstanding Achievement Awards’ and the prestigious ‘Principal Award’ (for both Primary and Secondary).

The recipients of these two awards were specially selected for their excellent achievements in both the academic and extra-curricular fields. Their accomplishments had brought much pride to the school as several of them are junior, state-level representatives in sports such as golf, judo and gymnastics.

The day’s event concluded with a slide show of all the major activities organised and undertaken by the school during the past academic year. It was indeed a fitting end for both students and teachers who bid farewell and went home happy…no doubt looking forward to the start of their long, six-week holidays.
